Who is Publius - Socrates? Publius Socrates is an individual who believes that we should move with all deliberate speed to emulate the concept of Wikipedia and make this effort to improve government the property of humankind. Publius deems that putting a personality up front is to betray the effort to constantly improve with an "open source" approach. To maintain the integrity of the effort, self-promotion must be avoided.
Publius will strive to follow a lifelong belief that "he accomplishes most who lets others take the credit". The very success of the project depends on strong individuals taking up and making the concept, and organizations, fair and effective. The historical Socrates used questions to elicit truths assumed to be implicit in all rational beings. A fundamental part of this effort is an endeavor to constantly improve the questions so that a closer approach to truth may be achieved.
Each New Social Contract participant is expected to develop and publish on the web one issue or question and arrive at a fair approximation at true, fair, or necessary courses of political action.
Publius was the pseudonym used by writers of a series of political papers arguing for the adoption of the U.S. Constitution. Publius of New Social Contract argues for a unique Coalition approach to make the U.S. political system more responsive, and a model of a democratic government and value system more applicable to all evolving nations.
"Publius", the initiator of this effort, believes that he serves best by remaining in the background and that this effort will become a creature of multiple minds. One important essence of the latter stages of this effort is to identify superior potential public servants and projects. The intent is not to put forward the personal interests of participants but to identify and promote quality in issue research, people and political solutions. Our initial effort is to develop a fair, objective presentation of the most important issues from continuously improving trustworthy sources.
Is New Social Contract a commercial business? No, it is not a commercial business and when the other structures are more fully developed and funded they will be opened under their domain names of .org and .net.
Who is providing money for this effort? Private money is funding the initial effort. We need to convert it to appropriately tax deductible charitable and politically funded organizations as soon as we have proper legal representation. Volunteers and an oversight board will be required to set this effort in motion. Funds are required, for example, to acquire software for The Brain for web support, accounting, and all the normal expenditures of accommodation to legal requirements.
Where is this effort located? New Social Contract is located only on the net at present. A companion book "The Art of Rebellion: Rebelling in your personal life so you can learn to rebel and change the world" will be published shortly In the fullness of time (or ... in the foreseeable future) there should be a multitude of physical locations.
Why on the net? The net offers independent-minded and creative participants an opportunity to play as important a part in the effort as they desire. Most people using the net already have a web page and the knowledge of how to use it available to them.
Who can participate? Anyone who is willing to make the effort to select an issue and make a web source or do one of the volunteer tasks. Whether that contribution becomes a footnote or reference in someone else's web source depends on the quality and fairness of the effort.
Who Decides? Initially, Publius Socrates will decide which pages will be referenced. As the organization matures, editors will be selected from those who demonstrate quality and fairness and they will select further pages. At an appropriate time a large group of editors will be selected and exercise control of the entire effort.
Why, in this age of instant access to massive amounts of information on the net, is there a need for the database of the New Social Contract (NSC)? In the words of Marilyn Vos Savant, "Just as there are far more ways to do a job poorly than to do a job well, there is much more misinformation (innocent error) and disinformation (no-so-innocent error) than accurate material to consider. Which is which? An even if we have factual information, few of us have the time to become experts on everything of interest. So we need people we can trust. We need people who try to be objective more than anything else." NSC is designed to increasingly become that trusted source.
Each participant of NSC is involved in one at least one issue or task and doing his (or her) best to become a trusted source in a manner that is objective and fair. It is a process of continuous improvement with the best rising to the top in one issue, and with the objective that all of us involved may deserve the trust of other participants.
By their work you shall know them
